Greetings,
A dear friend and member of UBFM had a detrimental bike crash
this week on the Greenline. He is facing a few a surgeries and a long recovery.
I sk that you keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
As you all know it has been a poignant week for our country. I
am still having a difficult time unpacking the heartbreaking occurrences that
took place in Boston. As I sit here, watching the Today Show, there are a
number of stories about people who stepped in to help during this incident.
Locals in the area invited runners into their houses, tourists took action to
help those who were wounded, marathon participants started donating blood, and
people embraced strangers to comfort them. At such a dark time during such a
dark event love and hope projected a large amount of light. During this time
humans overcame differences, selfishness, and anger so that the glow of love
could be illuminated.
Hate, anger, self-righteousness, and crime cast a constant
shadow not only on our city but all over the world. It takes small, concrete,
random acts of kindness to lift this darkness. I hope that we can project this
kind of light on Wednesday nights. For all those who are part of this ministry
(or any non-profit organization), be mindful that you are a bright light of
love; you are the light of Christ.
Matt 5:14-16
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot
be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they
put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same
way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and
glorify your Father in heaven.
