Greetings and Happy Hump Day UBFM!
I hope this message finds you all having a delightful
morning. I usually start these posts with a comment of sorts about the weather.
I have to tell you, Monday I went on a bike ride wearing shorts and a short
sleeve shirt. Yesterday, it was 25 degrees and the wind was painful. You know
what they say: “You don’t like Tennessee weather? Wait a couple of days.”
Though it is cold, we will still follow through with our regular Wednesday
night meeting. I have created a blog with some good tips on how to dress when
bike commuting in cold weather. It might be of some help if you are struggling
with outfits for UBFM meetings. I will attach the link below.
Last week’s meeting experienced a bit of a change. Rather
than meeting at my house we met at First United Methodist Church, downtown. It
has been a blessing to use this amazing facility. We have officially moved in
and our first meeting there was great. As I told all of the riders last week,
it will be awkward at first but as time progresses it will become more fluid.
We are still getting to know the building and learning the ins and outs but it
is great to have so much more space and to be in a location that allows us to
reach more people. I want to thank the folks at First United Methodist that
have allowed us to use this facility. I have a feeling many great things will
come of this move and I’m excited to see what God has planned.
In addition to our move we distributed over 200 burritos, a
few cases of bottled water, loads of coats, blankets, socks, gloves,
handwarmers, and several other cold weather items. Many thanks go to all of the
people who participated and contributed to our mission. Thanks to all of the
bike riders that rode around town in 30 degrees temps, delivering supplies.
Thanks to those who rode around in their cars to keep the riders supplied.
Thanks to all of the food cooks that invested time and effort in making our
burritos. Thanks to all of the folks who have been collecting items for us to
distribute. Many thanks go to the people who have been knitting scarves and
hats for us to distribute. Thanks to the people who donated food for us to cook
and thanks to Super Lo and the Memphis Hightailers for hooking us up with
ground beef for a portion of our burritos. Thanks to everybody for the
continued abundance of prayers. Thanks to all of those people who take time to
talk about this organization. It is because of all of you that we are able to
fulfill this mission. I strongly believe that God works through God’s people.
It is humbling to see this happen among a group of people that I call my
friends.
We are starting to run low on cold weather supplies. It
appears that old man winter is going to settle in a bit longer. With that being
said we need some blankets, coats and jackets. If you have any of these items that
you would like to donate or you know people who are looking to rid of some
please let me know. Supplies can be dropped off at my house, on my porch, any
time of the day. 124 Roberta Dr. Memphis 38112.
We will be meeting at the church again this week and we will
meet at our regular scheduled time of 7:30 PM. You are welcome to show up at
6:30 if you are interested in helping with preparation. We will try to split up
and roll out at 8:00 and return around 10:00. For those who are planning to
join us I look forward to seeing you and serving with you. If you are unable to
join us I ask that you send us some prayers for safety and guidance. Pray that
we find those who are in need of some dinner, those who are need of supplies,
and those who just need to be reminded that they are loved.
Peace
