Greetings UBFMers!
I hope this message finds you in the middle of a beautiful
week and nicely recovered from a joyful St. Paddy’s Day. The weather looks to
be quite beautiful today. I think the night will bring some lower temps but in
comparison to our adventures during the past couple of months it will be
exponentially pleasant. The high this afternoon will see 62 degrees and the
evening looks as if it will drop to the low 40s. For me, this is when the
spirit of bike riding comes to life. Don’t get me wrong, I have bundled up and
pedaled through some cold and nasty conditions this winter. But I have to
admit; there were times of discontent on my bike. And, that is hard for me to admit. Now that we are
finally experiencing some pleasant weather, like a bear coming out of
hibernation, the spirit of cycling is being awakened. I see people commuting to
work on their bikes, the Greenway is becoming crowded, and the bike shops are
picking up business. This is a very excited time for me and I hope in some way
or another you can experience the same sentiment.
Last week we were blessed with an abundance of gifts to
allocate from a few different gracious suppliers. Thanks to Green as a Whistle
for supplying us with a load of brilliant care packages to distribute to our
friends on the streets. Many people received them as if they were birthday
gifts. Also, thanks to the hands that went into preparing our burritos last
week. When all was accounted for we had a pile of 324 burritos. With such a
compassionate group of givers, this lot was distributed within a couple of
hours. Many thanks go to the magnificent group of folks that came together to
make last week possible. Thanks to the compassionate group of pedaling
discyplists that traveled around midtown and downtown distributing food and
supplies. Also, thanks to the many folks that cooked and helped prepare food.
And, many thanks to all of the people that continually donate funds, offer
supplies, and pray for us regularly. It is because of your help and gifts that
we are able to fulfill our weekly mission.
Looking ahead: we have fundraisers on the horizon! Do any of
you like plays?
Are you interested in seeing Grace at the Circuit Playhouse on Thursday, April 10th?
That is the day BEFORE the opening day! UBFM has been blessed with the
opportunity to sell tickets to this event. It is a viewing before the regional
premier. If you attend you will be the first to see it live! The tickets will
be $45. We will provide catering for the event and High Cotton Brewing will provide
drinks. You can find more info on this production
here.
If you are interested in attending on Thursday, April 10th send me
an email tommy@ubfm.org in regard to
tickets.
Also, just days after the play, April 12th we
will be having a silent auction at the Overton Park Clubhouse with live music
provided by Big City Circus. You can find more info on this event and purchase
you tickets here.
I will soon have a list of items that will be up for auction. As for now, we
have some gift certificates from local restaurants and some magnificent art from
local artists. If you would like to donate anything to be auctioned please
contact me. All donated items are tax deductible.
If you plan on joining our ride tonight we will meet at our
regular scheduled time of 7:30 PM at First United Methodist Church: 204 N
Second St, Memphis, TN 38105. We will load up and try to depart around 8:00
with hopes of returning around 9:30 or 10:00 for fellowship and pizza.
If you are unable to join us tonight I ask that you pray for
our mission. Pray that we find safety wherever our paths lead. But, pray that
those paths are ones that take us to the places we are needed, the places we
can make a difference in someone’s life as well as make a difference in our
city. Thank you all for the time, effort, and love you invest in this
organization.
Peace
