Good day to you all my friends!
I hope this message finds you well in the middle of a great
week. Though there has been rain scattered sporadically all around us for past
couple of weeks, the forecast for our evening ride looks quite clear. However,
I will bring a light rain shell in my bag just in case.
Last week offered quite a memorable Wednesday night meeting.
As we gathered at the church I noticed that our numbers were low in regard to
riders and our numbers were high in regard to burritos. Scattered showers were
about and we expected it. However, due to the precipitation, I did not expect
to see that many people out. When we left the church our bags were loaded to
the maximum with burritos, bottled water, and snacks. Within the first hour,
nearly every group distributed all of their supplies. Despite the rain, there
were a lot of people on the streets. I am always happy to share the supplies we
prepare. That is the goal—to give out all of our provisions. On the flip side
of that, it means we have seen a lot of people on the streets. If it were up to
me, we would come back with the same amount we left with and have a burrito
party at church. That is never the case, though. On a good note, we do not
limit our offerings to those who are homeless. We give supplies to any and
everybody. If we see someone walking down the sidewalk, we stop and ask if
they’ve had dinner. Whether the answer is yes or no, we offer them whatever we
have. This creates relationships, it builds friendships, and it allows people to
know good does still exist in the world. The love of God is at large. It is
running rampant through the streets of Memphis on bicycles.
Many thanks go to the compassionate folks that joined
together to make last Wednesday possible. Thanks to all of the people who came
out to deliver supplies but also thanks to the people who were behind the scene
making it possible. Thanks to the folks who prepared food, donated funds,
helped with office work, and offered up many prayers. We continue to meet and
grow because of your efforts.
Speaking of growing, our Saturday morning ride is getting
popular. Thanks to Taylor and the gang, breakfast burritos are being
distributed all over downtown Memphis on Saturday mornings. If you are free at
7:30 Saturday morning join this group for a short ride around downtown. They
meet at FUMC: 204 N Second St, Memphis, TN 38105. This is a great opportunity
to learn a little more about out rides.
Tonight we will meet at our regular scheduled time and
place: 7:30 PM at FUMC, 204 N Second St, Memphis, TN 38105. If you would like to
help with preparing some burritos, Brent will get started in the kitchen around
6:00 PM. We will roll out around 8:00 and return around 9:30 or 10:00. If you
plan on riding with us I look forward to seeing you and serving with you. If
you are joining us for the first time all you need to bring is a bike, helmet,
backpack, and a giving spirit. I would like to stress lights on your bikes as
well. You can purchase front and rear flashers at any bike shop or sporting
goods store. These lights allow motorists to see us and it also allows our
friends on the streets to see us and know we are near.
If you are unable to join us I ask that you pray for our
mission. Pray that we are safe but pray that we find people who are in need of
our offering. Pray that we make a difference in someone’s life and pray that we
make an impact on our city. Thank you for all of the time, donations, and
prayers you all give to this mission. It is a blessing to work with you sharing
God’s love with God’s people.
Peace
