Greetings and happy Hump Day UBFM,
I hope you are all enjoying some amazing autumn weather this
week. This is certainly my favorite time of the year. This is simply the best
time of the year to be outside, enjoying God’s marvelous creation. What better
way to do so than on a bike? I’m excited to see some of you this evening and
spend some time serving our neighbors along side of you.
I am certain that many of us are pleased to have the weather
change but let us keep in mind that the needs of our brothers and sisters on
the streets has changed as well. A good warm meal will always be at hand but I
would like to have some blankets, jackets, and like items to distribute as
well. We have already had some of these items come in and I would like to thank
those folks for sending them to us. However, we will need much more as the
colder months grow near. If you have any extra cold weather items that you plan
on discarding we can find a good home for them. You can contact us on Facebook
or contact us through our website: www.ubfm.org
I want to offer a mighty thanks to the group that
volunteered to clean and organize our supplies closet last weekend. If you had
the chance to see the before and after photos you will follow the level of hard
work they undertook. Thank you all for the work!
I want to also recognize a group of guys that I am very
proud of. There’s a group of folks from North Mississippi that have been
volunteering with UBFM for a couple of years. They are dedicated to God’s work
and serving our brothers and sisters on the streets. For the next 10 days this
group, Ride 4 Him Ministries, will be in Thailand performing mission work and
riding their bikes to raise money for the trip and all of its needs. I am very
honored to work with them here in Memphis and I know they will make and impact
wherever they go. I ask that you keep them in your prayers during this trip.
Pray that they are safe on their journeys and pray that they allow the love of
God to show wherever they go.
Don’t forget about the Saturday morning rides! I would like
to encourage you all to come out and ride with us on Saturday. It is a great
ride and a good way to start your day. If you are free at 7:30 AM, join this
group for a short ride around downtown while serving breakfast to our neighbors
on the streets. They meet at FUMC: 204 N Second St, Memphis, TN 38105
Tonight we will meet at our regular scheduled time and
place: 7:30 PM at FUMC, 204 N Second St, Memphis, TN 38105. If you would like to
help with preparing some burritos, Brent will get started in the kitchen around
6:00 PM. We will roll out around 8:00 and return around 9:30 or 10:00. If you
plan on riding with us I look forward to seeing you and serving with you. If
you are joining us for the first time all you need to bring is a bike, helmet,
backpack, and a giving spirit. Since it is cooling off I recommend a jacket as
well. Try to remember to put some flashing lights on your bikes. You can
purchase front and rear flashers at any bike shop or sporting goods store.
These lights allow motorists to see us and it also allows our friends on the
streets to see us and know we are near.
If you are unable to join us I ask that you pray for our
mission. Pray that we are safe but pray that we find people who are in need of
our offering. Pray that we make a difference in someone’s life and pray that we
make an impact on our city. Thank you for all of the time, donations, and
prayers you all give to this mission. It is a blessing to work with you sharing
God’s love with God’s people.
Peace
