10-8-14

Good glorious day to you all!

I hope you are all having a good October so far. We have arrived at my favorite day of the week (when I’m in Memphis) and I hope I have the opportunity to fellowship, ride, and serve along side of some of you on this evening. It appears that we will have some pleasant weather this evening and it is shaping up to be a great ride.

I want to cover a few updates with you; I will try to make it quick. As we approach a colder time of the year, I would like to start preparing for it. If you have the opportunity, please start collecting blankets, coats, jackets, scarves, gloves, caps, and other cold weather items to be distributed this winter. If you happen to be at the store or shopping the isles at Goodwill, you see some good bargains on winter items, and you want to make a donation, it would help us out and it will make some people happy on cold nights.

One of the most memorable nights I can recall in UBFM history was on Thanksgiving of last year. It was a very spiritual moment for me and I feel like it was for many of the people who participated. I hope and pray that we have a similar UBFM Thanksgiving this year. I urge you to look at our blog and read the Thanksgiving post from last year.

One of our UBFM volunteers, Carter Chappell, is coordinating a fundraiser/cycling event on the weekend before Thanksgiving. The name of the event is Cranksgiving. There is Facebook event page for it. I urge you to follow and share it. It should be a fun event. All of the money raised for this event goes directly to UBFM.

We have new UBFM t-shirts! We have the traditional logo and the “CBGB” logo as well. Here’s the catch: I have this problem; I give away shirts to everybody and I’m not suppose to. I got in trouble by my bosses, Frank and Amy for giving away too many shirts from the last order. So, they have taken away my privilege of t-shirt keeper. If you want a shirt see Amy Hutchison with a $20 donation. You know her; she’s the pretty blond that keeps us together. I don’t know what we’d do without that gal! Credit and debit cards will be accepted.

Tonight we will meet at our regular scheduled time and place: 7:30 PM at FUMC, 204 N Second St, Memphis, TN 38105. If you would like to help with preparing some burritos, Brent will get started in the kitchen around 6:00 PM. We will roll out around 8:00 and return around 9:30. If you plan on riding with us I look forward to seeing you and serving with you. If you are joining us for the first time all you need to bring is a bike, helmet, backpack, and a giving spirit. Try to remember to put some flashing lights on your bikes. You can purchase front and rear flashers at any bike shop or sporting goods store. These lights allow motorists to see us and it also allows our friends on the streets to see us and know we are near.

If you are unable to join us I ask that you pray for our mission. Pray that we are safe but pray that we find people who are in need of our offering. Pray that we make a difference in someone’s life and pray that we make an impact on our city. Thank you for all of the time, donations, and prayers you all give to this mission. It is a blessing to work with you sharing God’s love with God’s people.

Peace
