Greetings my friends!
I hope you are having a great week and absorbing a little of this spring time weather. It's one of those days when you need to have your lunch break outside. It is also that time of the week when we get together for a bike ride and offer a hand to our neighbors.
I want to share something with you real quick. Last week I was blessed to have the opportunity to ride with the Poplar Ave group. There were only three of us on the "Pop group" but we were all familiar with the route. As we were approaching the Cleveland intersection a car pulled over and flagged down Stefan. A lady stepped out of the vehicle and helped her child out of the back seat. They approached Stefan and asked him if they could have some food. Of course he gave them a bag full of food and some bottles of water. Since witnessing this I have been thinking about that lady and her child. I am sure she knew who we were. She would not have gone out of her way to stop a guy on a bicycle and ask for dinner. But that might have been her only means to feed her child and herself that night. It was a blessing for me to help out with that. Just because a person has a car or a home doesn't mean they can afford to put food on the table or even a jacket for their back. When you ride with us, never hesitate to ask someone if they have had dinner. Even if they have money to buy dinner, you are sharing love and hope with them.
Our mission is "To meet the needs of the people in our community, one interaction at a time." A person's need might simply be a friend, a handshake, or a hug. Our primary goal is not to cure hunger or homelessness in the world, but rather to build hope to people who lack it. Will you join us in that effort?
We meet tonight at 6pm in the kitchen at First United Methodist Church to start cooking. We load up at 7:30 and roll out for the ride at 8:00. Don't forget: bike, backpack, helmet, flashers (front &rear), and a giving spirit.
Peace
