I hope you are all having a great week. It has been really hot lately but we have thankfully been blessed with rain to cool things off a little. Despite these showers that have continually blown through Tennessee, it has become very humid. I am pretty sure you can actually see the humidity in the air.
With all of the humidity one of our biggest requests while delivering food and supplies is cold bottled water. A cold bottle of water on a hot and humid summer day is a good way to make a friend for life. The second most requested item is insect repellant. If you would like to make a supply donation to UBFM, we are trying to stock up on insect repellant and cases of bottled water. You can drop them off tonight at the First United Methodist Church in Memphis, between 6:30 and 8:00. If you need to drop off donations at another time email runfastboy79@gmail.com
If you are riding tonight, we load up at 7:30 and roll out at 8:00. We will return around 9:30. If you want to help prepare food, the kitchen crew starts at 6:30 and will finish at 8:00. See Amy Chadwick; she is the gal in charge of the kitchen crew.
If you are riding you will need:
- bike
- helmet
- backpack/messenger bag/pannier
- flashing light for the front and rear of the bike
- a giving and loving spirit
Extras to bring (but not necessary)
- tools to fix a flat (for bike tire)
- flashlight (extra)
- a couple of small bags of hygiene items (there are occasional requests)
- ziplock bag (for your phone in case it rains)
- insect repellant
- old plastic grocery bags (to put food in when you distribute)
- bike trailer
- CANDY (it's a big request)
Items we need for donation
- Bottled water
- insect repellant
- socks
- snacks (granola bars/chips/candy/etc)
We are also collecting bicycles. We have a lot of people that are interested in volunteering with us but do not own a bicycle. We try to keep some loaners on hand but we do not have many. If you have any old (functional) bicycles that you would like to donate to a good cause please let me know. fattire77@gmail.com
Peace and Blessings
