Greetings and happy winter season to you all!
I hope you are all having a good week and staying warm.
There are a number of items that I would like to cover in this post but I will
try to make it quick. First, for all you St. Jude runners, I am sorry the event
was canceled. Look at the bright side; you are in shape to run 13.1/26.2 miles.
You are a champ in my book. On the brighter side, you know those little goody
bags you receive upon finishing a marathon? The event coordinators donated them
to UBFM. Think about how many participants there would have been and think of
the number of goody bags. Yep, we got them to donate to our friends and
neighbors on the streets. I would estimate about half of them have already been
given out. One thing I would like to focus on this week, if we haven’t already
distributed them all, is handing out the rest of the bags. Many thanks go to
the people who volunteered to pick up the bags from the convention center
Saturday night. Also, many thanks to Frank Rouse and friends who picked up the
bags, then went driving around town handing them out. You all are fantastic.
The next item I would like to cover is a very small
unofficial fundraiser on Friday, Dec. 20th. Loyal UBFM member, and
my partner in ministry, Frank Fournier and his band, Big City Circus will be
playing at Poplar Lounge. If you are familiar with BCC you know they know how
to put on a show. If you are not familiar you are in for a treat. During the
show we will be taking donations that will go directly to UBFM funding. If you
are able to show up and hang out, please do!
Last week held another amazing, successful Wednesday night
meeting. We distributed nearly 300 burritos thanks to several generous
donations. The people we met with were excited to accept the hot food on a
relatively cold night. In addition to the burritos we delivered dozens of
coats/jackets, 3 cases of bottled water, and several care packages. Many thanks
go to the magnificent discyplists that delivered the supplies as well as the
people who donated time and effort to make the evening possible.
We are still gathering blankets and coats/jackets to be
distributed on Wednesday nights. If you have any of these items you would like
to donate let me know. You may also drop supplies off at our meeting location:
124 Roberta Dr.
Memphis TN 38112
We have a small surplus of supplies that we are pulling from
but it is starting to dwindle. It looks like the cold weather is here to stay
for a while so I’m certain we will continue to allocate these items.
If you plan on riding with us this Wednesday night we will
meet at our usual time. My door will be open at 6:30 PM but we will load up at
7:30 and try to depart at 8:00. We will return around 10:00. If you are unable
to join us I ask that you continue to pray for our mission. Pray for our safety
but also that we reach the people that are in need. Thank you all for the time,
effort, donations, support, and love for this organization. It is because of
you that we are able to continue our mission.
Peace
