Greetings and Merry Christmas UBFM!
I hope this post finds you all enjoying some time with your
families and loved ones. It is, indeed one of the most joyful days of the year,
full of good food, giving, sharing, cheer, and fellowship. I hope you are all able
to enjoy this occasion to its fullest.
Last week was another successful UBFM meeting. Twelve
compassionate people came together to deliver supplies and meals to our
neighbors on the streets. All of our bags and bike trailers were filled to
their capacity with 260 burritos, two cases of bottled water, blankets,
jackets, cookies, candy, and loads of other miscellaneous cold weather gear. I
want to thank all of the folks that invested so much time in delivering,
preparing, cooking, collecting, and donating supplies. I am continuously amazed
and humbled by the people who invest so much in this ministry. I can’t start to
list the random acts of kindness I am blessed to witness every day through this
group. Whether you feel a specific or divine call to help out in this missional
group or not, it is all of you that make it happen. If you donating, preparing
food, gathering supplies, riding with us, praying for us, or simply talking
about us—you are part of it. I believe God exists in the world through God’s
people. It is a blessing to see God work through this group. It is a bonus to
see it happen with bicycles.
Since Christmas falls on a Wednesday this year, I think it
is fitting to have a special Wednesday night meeting. Our ministry and the
giving season coincide a bit. We are known for delivering meals and gifts to
our friends and neighbors affected by homelessness. This week I want to give
out some special gifts to our brothers and sisters on the streets. I have been
gathering some items to place into care packages. These packages will be larger
than the ones we have distributed in the past. They will contain a plethora of
goodies and gifts that many of you have been gathering and donating. In
addition to these gift bags we will distribute a load of burritos. This week a
large portion of our burritos will contain ground beef thanks to Super Lo
grocery.
With all of that being said, we have a lot of supplies to
allocate. What do you say to a post-Christmas dinner bike ride? I know many of
you have family plans and a lot of you are out of town. But, if you are bored
with sitting in front of the tube, watching holiday Hallmark movies, come join
us for a little urban bike ride. We can certainly use your help.
If you are interested in coming out for the ride all you
will need is a bike, backpack/messenger bag, helmet, and a giving spirit. A few
layers of clothing are also recommended. We meet at my house at 7:30 PM. My
door will be open at 6:30 for anyone who would like to arrive early to help
prep. We will try to roll out around 8:00. We usually meet back around 10:00 to
enjoy some food, drinks, fellowship, and reflection.
If you are able to join us I am excited about seeing you and
serving with you. If you are unable to join I hope you have a wonderful Christmas!
I ask that you send us some prayers for safety and guidance during our ride.
Pray that the giving and joyful spirit of Christmas works through us and our
lights shine bright in our great city.
Peace be with you all!
