Good Morning!
Last night as I was getting into 'Burrito mode' and checking
on what supplies we will need tonight I was reminded by Brent David that we gave out
over 500 burritos last week. 500! My reply to that was, "Yeah, pretty
amazing." "To say the least," replied Brent. Man oh Man was he
right. Pretty Amazing was the understatement of the year.
I'm sitting here now as I was last night looking for
adjectives to describe what has been going on with UBFM as of late. The
outpouring of donations of food, water, bug spray and most importantly, time
has been overwhelming. Week after week our numbers are growing along with the
amount of food we are able to give out. Think about this. When Tommy Clark started this mission
a few years ago, it was him and a bag of burritos and some bottled water riding
out of his house on Roberta. Fast forward to now and we have several groups of
folks making burritos and having fellowship prior to coming downtown to ride
along with 20-25 other folks from all different walks of life to deliver not
only burritos and water, but also bug spray, clothes, shoes, candy, cookies and
Bibles. If we have it, we will give it out.
Sarah
Petschonek keeps sending us folks from her group with the Volunteer
Odyssey. These are folks that are part of the giving and helping that this city
is known for. Great things are happening in this city and UBFM is part of those
great things. Week after week I see the overwhelming displays of kindness and
giving that are giving people hope and faith on the streets.
If you'd like to be a part of this we ride on Wednesday
nights at 8 at the corner of Poplar and Second street in downtown Memphis. You
can park in the lot next to the church. All you need is a bike, a backpack, a
helmet and a giving heart. If you don't have the first three, then show up at
6pm and help Brent, Gary W Gardo
and David Corum make some
of the burritos that will we be handing out later this evening. If you can't
make it down tonight, please keep us in your thoughts as we ride out to deliver
some hope and faith on the streets of Memphis.
As always, we are in need of bottled water, bug spray and
any sweet treats that you may want to donate. You can drop it off at my place on
the front porch. My address is 3663 Autumn Ave, Memphis, Tn 38122.
Cheers
