It was 4 years ago today that I had a crazy idea to get on my
bike, ride around town, and meet with people on the streets. I didn't tell
anyone that I was going to do it because I knew even my closest friends
would try to talk me out of it. I knew some people would say that it was too
dangerous. I thought some might tell me it was a stupid idea. I just didn't
want to hear it. So, I went to the store and purchased the stuff to make about
15 bean and rice burritos. I cooked them up in my kitchen and ate one for my
own dinner. I loaded the rest in my messenger bag and hit the town.
I remember riding down Madison Ave and making a couple of stops. I rode
down Cleveland and stopped to converse with some guys behind
a convenient store. I then turned on Jefferson to stop and talk with
a guy beside Manna House. I traveled on downtown to Handy Park and distributed
the rest. While there, one man insisted that he pray with me. I wish
I could tell him that his prayer was blessed. When I returned back home to
midtown I sat down on my couch and cried. I had never felt so called to
ministry in my life. I had never felt so empowered by God. I knew I would
have to tell my friends about it and if they decided to join me, great.
But, if they would not join me I would continue to do this until I could no
longer do it. Oh, little did I know... A seed was planted on that Wednesday
evening, July 2012. Such a harvest continues to grow from it. Thank you all for
helping to nourish this wonderful plant!
