11-16-16

Greetings UBFM’rs!

I hope you are having a great week and enjoying a little touch of winter as it slowly creeps in. It looks like we have another beautiful night for a UBFM ride. Keep in mind; since the temps are getting a little cooler, the demands will change a little bit for our friends and neighbors in need. Watch for changes in the list of needs below.

Lately, we have been blessed with an influx of new volunteers. I am so thankful that more people are learning about our organization. The more volunteers we have, the more we can do. However, we are forced to prepare our volunteers for what to expect when they serve this organization. As you can imagine, for some people, it is a little awkward riding a bike around the city and finding people in need. It is sometimes hard to find the words to say when approaching people. And, there are dangers in serving this ministry. The simple act of riding a bike around Memphis has some risks. We care a lot about our volunteers and we want their UBFM experience to enjoyable and spiritually moving. When we are unable to prepare and train our new volunteers adequately we rely on our experienced UBFM’rs. There are some volunteers that have been with us since the foundation was created over 4 years ago. And there are volunteers that have been with us for several months that can tell you anything you need to know about the organization. We rely on them to lead and mentor our new folks, as they become part of this ministry. If you are an experienced UBFM volunteer I ask that you help lead our new volunteers. Show them the ropes, safety, and help them meet some of our neighbors that we serve.

We will load up tonight at 7:30 and ride out at 8:00. We will return around 9 -9:30. We meet at the Carpenter's House, same location as the FUMC (see below). If you would like to help prepare burritos, we will start in the kitchen of FUMC at 6:30.

We will also meet on Saturday morning at 7:30am to load up and roll out at 8:00. We will return around 9:00. If you would like to help out in the kitchen we start cooking at 7:00am. The meeting location is the same as the Wednesday night ride.
