11-30-16

11-30-16

Seasons Greetings!

I hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving. I know I did and, as usual, I ate way too much. I want to thank you for going out last week on the eve of the giving holiday and sharing with our neighbors in need.

This week marks the first week of Advent on the Christian liturgical calendar. Advent is basically the weeks leading up to Christmas. But, Advent represents the first coming of Christ into the world. It represents the coming of peace, love, justice, hope, and light coming into the world. That is something to celebrate! I don’t think you have to be a Christian to celebrate this time of the year. We can all come together and celebrate by sharing a little love and hope with our neighbors. One of God’s greatest desires is that people love their neighbors as they would themselves.  That is something that gets lost a lot. But, UBFM does a good job of preserving that neighborly love. This Advent season I hope that we can show people that God’s desire to love our neighbors is still at large and it is happening. When I see you all come together it is a reminder that God is still at work through God’s people. I don’t think I speak for myself when I say that gives me hope.

We will load up tonight at 7:30 and ride out at 8:00. We will return around 9 -9:30. We meet at the Carpenter's House, same location as the FUMC (see below). If you would like to help prepare burritos, we will start in the kitchen of FUMC at 6:30.

REMINDER: This week the Saturday morning ride will not meet due to the St. Jude Marathon. However, I urge you to come show your support for the people running through the streets of Memphis. It’s a pretty big event.
