Greetings and TGiF UBFM!
I hope you are all having a marvelous week and enjoying some
of the blazing summer sun—perhaps in the shade. I have several topics I would
like to cover in this post. First: last weekend a group of UBFM members got
together for some mountain biking on the trails at Herb Parsons Lake. They had
a great ride and I think we are going to head back for another this Sunday. If
you are interested in joining us please come on out! If the weather permits, we
will meet in the parking lot at Herb Parsons Lake at 3:30. This is going to be
a ride for ALL skill levels. Post-ride pints and pizzas may be involved.
In an earlier post I expressed that I would not be present
for the last meeting. As it turned out I was released form the conference early
and made the meeting just in time. The feeling of being back home and with my
UBFM brothers and sisters was immeasurable. To make the event even worthier we
encountered many old friends on the streets. Fifteen disciples pedaling meals
on wheels distributed 120 burritos, 4 cases of bottled water, 20 care packages,
and many apples, oranges, granola bars, candy, and packs of crackers. Several
donations came in early on Wednesday. Thank you all for making this night
possible!
We still need an income of food and supply donations. If
your family or church group is interested in a missional project we can always
use the extra help. Those of you who have been making burritos for us, you are
so much help! Thank you much! Please, keep them coming! If you or your group,
family, Sunday School class, band, etc. are interested in making some burritos
for us we will certainly distribute them. We keep them simple: beans, rice,
cheese, on a large tortilla, wrapped in foil. Feel free to get creative with
your own formula.
Recently, New Tribe Memphis came together and created a huge
load of care packages with a number of basic items in each. In addition, a
Sunday School class from First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Lewisburg TN
created a large load of care packages for riders to distribute. When our
neighbors receive these care packages the response is priceless. I have seen
many people shed tears in answer. May it be the burritos, the snacks, or the
care packages these donations fill a persons heart with warmth; it allows them
to understand they are loved, thought about, and prayed for.
If you are interested in donating care packages here is a
list of items:
-toothpaste and toothbrush
-small packages of candy, gum, tick tacks
-juice boxes
-small packages of snacks
-deodorant
-soap
-lotion
-lip balm
-travel size shampoo and conditioner
-travel size soap
-toothbrush holders
-wet wipes
-sunscreen
-insect repellant
-small items we can put in a large ziplock
You may create them packages yourself or donate the items
and we will assemble them. They do not have to contain all of these items. Feel
free to put a unique touch to your group’s packages.
Finally, we have some new t-shirts! If you are interested in
a green shirt, a CBGB style shirt, or a trucker hat give me a shout and I make
sure you receive one. They are all $20.
Thank you all for your participation in this organization.
If you are donating, riding Wednesday nights, spreading the word around, or
praying for us you are a huge part of this ministry. Thanks to all of you!
Peace
