Greetings and happy weekend UBFM!
I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend and, perhaps
enjoying some of this beautiful weather. That time of year has finally arrived
when we are able to enjoy a cool night or two. Soon enough we will be layering
up for our rides and circulating warmth items to our friends on the streets.
Just last Wednesday one of our friends requested a blanket. Fortunately, I have
a small hoard put away from last winter and we were able to accommodate.
As the weather begins to change our needs will change as
well. Last year we constantly distributed hand warmers, blankets, and jackets
in addition to the standard burritos and bottled water. If any of your
churches, businesses, social groups, etc. would like to start a UBFM blanket
collection, we will certainly need it in the near future.
Speaking of last week, we had a marvelous ride Wednesday
night. Twenty-four gracious, pedaling disciples rode among the city, dispersing
large quantities of food and basic needs to all of out neighbors on the
streets. Thank you all for being part of this event and offering so much time
and effort to make it possible. We distributed almost 300 burritos (50 of them
were delicious ham and cheese rolls), loads of granola bars (I have no idea how
many), 6 cases of bottled water, and a several care packages. Many thanks not
only go to the crew that delivered supplies but also to the great people who
prepared and donated supplies too.
Let us continue our efforts with exultation. This week I
would like to duplicate our recent events. In addition to our standard burrito,
water, and care package delivery I would like to load up a blanket or two just
in case we meet some folks in need of such.
If you plan on riding with us Wednesday night I look forward
to see you and serving with you. If you are unable to join us I ask that you
send us some prayers for safety and guidance. Also, spread the word of our
mission; allow people know who we are and what we do. Perhaps this will
encourage motorists to watch out for the pedalers on the road.
Peace
