Greetings and Happy Canadian Thanksgiving Day!
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving Day if you’re uncomfortable with
Columbus Day, that is. It will give you a reason to eat fantastic Canadian
dishes and drink delicious Canadian beer. Cheers!
Anyhoo, I hope this message finds you all in the middle of a
beautiful Monday. If you are experiencing the Memphis Monday blues, just take a
deep breath of the nice air outside. Today’s weather is quite exquisite.
Unfortunately, tomorrow may see some storms. More importantly, those storms may
bleed into Wednesday. There is only a slight chance though. Nevertheless,
storms have not stopped us from following through with our mission in the past.
Let us continue doing what we do for our neighbors graciously.
Last week was quite a success. We distributed nearly 250
burritos, 50 ham and cheese rolls, 5 cases of bottled water, a case of beef
jerky, enough granola bars to feed an army of elephants, and a whole bunch of
hugs, handshakes, high fives, and fist bumps. We also distributed several
blankets, jackets, and sweaters that have already been donated. Thanks to the
gracious 12 discyplists that donated time, effort, and love to last week’s
mission. Also, many thanks to my gracious and magnificent cooks and food preps
that donated supplies, time, and effort as well. Also, thanks to all of my
friends and UBFM family that have been collecting blankets, sweaters, and
jackets, for us to distribute. As I noted above, we have already been giving
out some of these items. Right now, the weather seems pleasant. However, it
seems good in our homes and in the middle of the day. Even now, in the early
autumn, the nights get quite cool. It is hard for us to imagine trying to find
a warm place, out of the wind and elements. The bad part is, it gets worse. As
the temp drops, conditions become harder to cope with. With that being said,
help us in collecting some warmth supplies. We need some blankets (throw size)
and/or sleeping bags, and jackets. Check the closet and see if there are any
old pieces you can part with. Or, just cast a line out there. Last year some
good friends of mine placed a box at their work place and taped a sign to it
that read, “blankets for homeless”. It accumulated a lot of supplies. I’ve got
some UBFM stickers that I would gladly give to label your box. Let me know.
In addition to warmth supplies, we will certainly continue
to distribute the same amount of food, snacks, and water. So, we will
continually accept donations of burritos, water, beef jerky (this is a big
one), and candy.
Let us come together this week and fulfill our mission! For
those who are planning on riding with us I look forward to seeing you, serving
with you and sharing some fellowship. We will meet at the same time of 7:30 PM.
As always, my door will be open at 6:30 for any bike maintenance needs and/or
shoot the breeze. If you are unable to ride with us, I have a big favor to ask:
send us some prayers for safety and guidance. If praying is not your thing, I
still have a big favor to ask: spread the word about UBFM. Send people to our
website, share us on Facebook, wear our shirt (let me know if you need one),
and help us collect some donations. You don’t have to ride with us to be part
of this organization. It is because of you and all of these efforts that we are
able to do what we do. Thank you and God bless!
Peace
