10-30-13

Greetings to you all and BOO!

I am sorry, I didn’t mean to frighten you but it is the week of Halloween! Happy All Hallows Eve to you all! I must confess, I am on holiday this week and I will not be present for our Wednesday night meeting. However, I must say, I am staring out the window of my friend’s house looking at some amazing desert mesas J

Last week was such a blessing. Twelve compassionate, loving disciplists pedaled around midtown and downtown, distributing supplies to our brothers and sisters on the streets. Some of us pulled bike trailers full of supplies. All of the blankets, jackets, scarves, and food we took out were given. The recipients of blankets and jackets were so surprised and thrilled to receive the provisions. Many thanks go to the riders, burritos makers, backup drivers, blanket and jacket donators, and people who helped in making this possible.

Anyhoo, everything is lined up and ready to roll for a good Wednesday night meeting. We have a surplus of warm blankets and jackets that have been donated. Thanks to all of the magnificent folks who have collected supplies for us. In addition to our warm gear we will still donate burritos, snacks, and water. And, if you are planning on riding this week, bring some Halloween candy to distribute. It will be a great gift for our neighbors on the streets. If everything goes as planned, we are going to start distributing hot cocoa, that’s right a mobile hot cocoa unit being pulled by a bicycle. This week might be the trial run for it. If you are unable to see it happen I’m sure we will have photos.

Since there will be a shortage of people helping out this week we need some extra wheels on the street. If you are able, come join the group for a little ride. Everybody will meet at my house at 7:30. Feel free to show up early to help make burritos or perform any bike maintenance. We’ll get loaded up with blankets, burritos, and supplies then split into groups and roll out around 8:00 PM. There area few bike trailers to fill and pull if there are any interests. It makes a good workout! Everybody will rendezvous back at my house around 10:00 for some good fellowship and share stories.

For all of you who plan on riding I am sorry I will miss you this week. I look forward to hearing some good stories. If you are unable make it I ask that you send us some prayers for guidance, safety, and that we make a positive impact with our mission. Also, spread the word of our efforts. You know the moments at work at the water cooler? Strike a conversation. You can say, “Have you ever heard of the Urban Bicycle Food Ministry? Check them out at UBFM.org”. Thank you all for your prayers, donations, efforts, support, and much love. You all make this ministry happen.

Peace
