Greetings friends and fellow UBFM’rs
I hope you are all enjoying this magnificent hump day. My
favorite day of the week has arrived and I am excited to see some of you
tonight for our weekly gathering. The sky looks clear and forecast shows no
sign of rain. That is unless they have changed it in the last 12 hours, which
would not surprise me a bit.
I suspect this week will be much like the last. We prepared
over 250 burritos and had a lot of additional snacks and supplies. Nothing came
back. We distributed all of burritos and, in many cases, ran out. I intend on
making more food this week and having more bottled water on hand. As the
weather warms up bottled water becomes a greater request. I want to thank all
of those who made last week’s mission possible. Many thanks go to the 20
pedaling discyplists who ventured around midtown and downtown Memphis,
distributing food and supplies to our brothers and sisters on the streets.
Also, many thanks go to the gracious folks who invested time in making and preparing
food and supplies for us to allocate. Much thanks to people who donated and
consistently donate funds to keep this organization operational. And, great
thanks go to the people who continually pray for our mission and us.
I mentioned to the group last week that is such a blessing
to witness the compassion they show toward people on weekly basis. I can
definitely say that I have learned a lot about ministry through this group. Out
of the 4 years in seminary I did not learn what I have gained from watching
this group serve people on Wednesday nights. I think this weekly mission allows
all of the participants to experience a spiritual revelation. For me, I see God
at work in the world. I get to experience God through a group of people that I
can call my friends. This is a huge blessing in my life. Thank you all.
Tonight, we will meet at our regular scheduled time: 7:30 PM
at First United Methodist Church 204 N Second St, Memphis, TN 38105. If you
would like to show up early to help prepare burritos I’m sure our burrito cook,
Brent, would love the help. If you are unable to ride and but would like to
help out. You are more than welcome to help with food and supply prep. Simply
show up around 6:30 PM. We will be in the kitchen.
If you are planning on coming out tonight, I look forward to
seeing you and serving with you. If you are unable, there are still many ways
you can be part of the ministry. Tell people about us; talk about us to your
friends and neighbors. If people know who we are and what we are doing it is
more likely they will look out for us as we ride our bikes around. Share our
website! I am about to make some changes to the webpage but there are some
pics, blogs, and additional information about us. www.ubfm.org.
Pray for us! Pray for our safety but pray that we find the people who are need
of help. Pray that we grow in spirit and God reveals something that will allow
us to reach out further to those in need. Thank you for all that you do and God
bless!
Peace
