Greetings and happy hump day UBFM!
I hope this message finds you all in the middle of a joyful
week. It is Wednesday, one of my favorites, and I can’t wait to ride and serve
with you in our community. It looks like it will be a hot and sultry night with
a 30 percent chance of showers. The pleasant side of that: we have a 70 percent
chance of staying dry while on our ride. Another pleasant side of it: it’s hot,
muggy, and a little shower will feel fantastic. I haven’t even looked for the
bad side. What can I say? The glass is half full.
Anyhoo, I would like to apologize. I failed to submit an
update from last weekend. As many of you know Wednesday was our 1-year
anniversary. It was one year ago that a small load of burritos went out on the
streets of Memphis via bicycle. You all have managed to keep it together and
prove much growth since then. I’m proud of you all! We had a great night.
Thirty care packages were delivered along with 180 burritos, several bags of
chips, several bags of granola bars, a few cases of crackers, and 6 cases of
bottled water. Our group was a little smaller than usual but it was solid.
Thank you all for making this happen. Thank you all for all the support, donated
supplies, the efforts, the commitment, your compassion, love, and prayers. This
missional ministry happens because of all the people who are involved.
We have another year ahead of us. The first year was a
learning process. I can’t say I knew it would grow to this volume. But, I am anxious
to see what is ahead. With your involvement and community support the sky is
the limit. I hope to extend our reach in the homeless and impoverished
community. I am not interested in extending it past our Memphis community but
extending the reach so that we may embrace them more than we have been. Some
members and I have tossed around many ideas and I look forward to exploring
them. Look ahead and be excited! I really believe God is at work in this
organization.
I’m enthusiastic for a great night, great ride, and I’m keyed
up to serve and fellowship with you. If you plan on riding with us we will me
at the customary time. My door will be open at 6:00 PM if you would like to
show up early for bike maintenance and/or shoot the breeze. Otherwise, we will
load up at 7:30 and try to roll out at 8:00. We should have everybody back for
fellowship at 10:00. If you are unable to join us tonight we ask that you send
us prayers for safety and guidance to the places we are needed the most. I ask
that you spread the word around of our mission. Allow people to know who we are
and what we are doing. That might urge drivers to be more aware of us J. God Bless!
Peace
